Out Of Bundle Rates

Out Of Bundle Rates One of the great things about SIM contracts is that you tend to get a lot of inclusive minutes, texts and data (for Internet access) with your monthly price plan. Choosing the right inclusive allowances is a great way to keep your monthly bill down but it’s not always possible to predict exactly what your usage will be every month. If you exceed your inclusive allowances (assuming they aren’t unlimited) then you will be subject to what is known as out of bundle rates. Out of bundle rates are the charges you pay for each call, text or megabyte of data used which is over and above your monthly bundle.

These can sometimes be much higher than expected, for example if your allowance is 100 minutes for £10 then your minutes in your bundle could be thought of as costing 10p a minute, however this does not mean that your out of bundle rate will be 10p a minute. Networks often publish there out of bundle rates in the small print and many of rarely pay much attention to them but if you regularly, or even occasionally, go outside of your inclusive allowances they can be a big factor in your overall costs and could well mean the difference between choosing one deal or another.

One out of bundle rate in particular that it is important to watch out for is data usage. This is one area that catches many users out as it can be difficult to understand how much data is being used for a particular email, browsing session or download yet out of bundle rates can be very expensive. As more of us than ever use smartphones, and those smartphones tend to use more data than ever before, many customers have been caught of with high bills, often running into the hundreds of pounds, because they have used significant amounts of data over and above their inclusive allowances.

The good news is that networks do make it relatively easy for you to check how much of your allowances you have used. Most phones will track your monthly usage and the networks themselves offer apps and recorded phone and information for you to track your monthly usage. However, even bearing this in mind it’s important to understand the typical rates you will pay if you do exceed your allowances. The below are the latest rates at the time of writing although these can sometimes change at short notice so you should check your contract to be absolutely certain:
